Every year the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) celebrates World Food Day.

"World Food Day is a chance to show our commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 – to achieve Zero Hunger by 2030," states FAO, according to a report by the Metro.

Food was is a very common problem worldwide. Close to one-third of the food produced globally is wasted or spoiled, the report reveals.

If you want to do your part in making a change, here are some tips you can implement daily to be more sustainable.

1. Shop the right amount: Make practical purchases and avoid shopping for what you really don't need. Planning out your meals will make it easier to focus on what you need for the week.

2. Portion control: Use smaller plates and don't cram your plate with a load full of food, you may not end up eating.

3. Save food: Packing food in container and storing them in your freezer or fridge will prevent food waste.

4. Be mindful of fridge space: The thing we tend to keep at the back of the fridge tends to not be seen and lands up in the bin. Keep the newest products back and bring the oldest to the front.
