Bellandur lake: Not just froth, it's a toxic, cancerous brew

Bengaluru: Bellandur lake is once again spewing froth despite all the measures announced by the civic authorities and the government and what’s more worrisome are the findings of a survey conducted by a city school, which says more and more people living in the vicinity are falling sick.

Principal of KK high school, M.A. Khan, who has been monitoring the lake’s water quality with the help of students for the last two decades, say kidney problems, skin disease and epilepsy have increased drastically among people in the area due to the froth. And who is to blame for this shocking state of affairs? Local residents say the culprits are garment factories which let their untreated effluents into the lake, and  the hundreds of apartments nearby which discharge sewage.
