Hyderabad: Continental Hospitals celebrated two milestones in cancer treatment, setting a world record and achieving a first in Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh. The achievements were commemorated at a meeting at Continental Hospitals in the financial district on Tuesday..

In a first case, the cancer centre at Continental Hospitals, Gachibowli, completed a first-of-its-kind dendritic cell therapy for a young woman diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumour.

Dr A.V.S. Suresh, senior consultant for medical oncology and haematology, explained that the therapy involved extracting immune cells and cancer cells from the patient to develop a vaccine that is then administered intra-dermally. This innovative approach showcased the hospital's commitment to personalised cancer care.

Dr Guru N. Reddy, founder and chairman of Continental Hospitals, commended the cancer centre team for the achievement and emphasized the hospital's dedication to comprehensive, compassionate, and individualised cancer care.

In another historic feat, the cancer centre removed a 15-kg tumour from a 30-year-old woman while preserving her uterus and ovaries, marking a first in the Telugu states. Dr P. Jagannath, director of the Continental Cancer Centre, highlighted the complexity of the case, said that a  multidisciplinary team had achieved success in excising the tumor through a challenging surgery.
