Hyderabad: Creating more awareness is the only solution to encourage men to contribute to family planning, say city based gynaecologists.

“Teach adolescent boys and girls about pregnancy prevention. This will really help,” said Dr Sai Shobha, deputy civil surgeon gynaecologist.

According to the national family health survey (NFHS-4), of the total 48.5 per cent use of modern contraceptive methods, men’s share is mere 6.2 per cent, while women constitute 42.3 per cent.

Dr  Sai Shobha, deputy civil surgeon gynaecologist, added, “There is a need of appointing counsellors at government hospitals. So far, there are not many television advertisements on male sterlisation.”

Mr Ashok Endla, a resident of Tirumalgiri who won a cash prize for undergoing vasectomy, said, “After counselling, I decided to undergo vasectomy and take the responsibility instead of my wife. My wife supported me. I was discharged immediately and went to work.”
