NELLORE: Expressing concern over the sharp rise in breast cancer cases from 10 lakh to 17 lakh every year, Guntur Range DIG Dr Thrivikrama Varma underlined the need for awareness campaigns on mission mode for early detection and treatment.
He was addressing a gathering after flagging-off ‘The Global Grace Cancer Run – 2021’, organized by Grace Cancer Foundation at Ongole on Sunday.
As in-charge SP of Prakasam district, CH. Vijaya Rao also participated in the 5K run to boost the morale of the staff and public.
Speaking on the occasion, the SP said that cancer is seen more in the 40-50 years age-group, although it is likely to affect even those in their 30s. Most cases are reported in urban areas, he said.
The DIG advised people to take precautions like maintaining a nutritious balanced diet, regular exercise and undergo regular medical check-up.
Vijaya Rao underscored the need to keep a check on the diet, lifestyle, consumption of alcohol and tobacco related products to keep cancer at bay.
Cancer surgeon Dr. Chinnababu Sunkavalli said that cancer will have serious consequences if it goes unchecked. He said that their aim is to motivate people to avoid delaying its detection and treatment.
