Muhamma grama panchayat to hold yoga classes for all
The panchayat intends to train 30,000 people
ALAPPUZHA: Muhamma grama panchayat is opening yoga schools in all its 16 divisions to help villagers keep fit. District panchayat president G. Venugopal inaugurated the first one at Sree Valsam Auditorium near CMS LP School this week, offering a one-month course. "This school now has 50 students from age seven," grama panchayat president J. Jayalal said. "There is neither age bar nor fee for joining. The hourlong class begins at 7 am. The classes are led by the yoga experts – Dr Sreekumar and Dr Girinath - of Government Ayurveda Hospital, Muhamma. A batch can have 50 students."
The panchayat intends to train 30,000 people, who will get certificates after completing the course, to bid good riddance to lifestyle diseases. Both Mr Venugopal and Mr Jayalal are also students at this centre. "The project aims at ensuring a peaceful and disease-free life and save the people addicted to bad habits like smoking, alcohol and drugs consumption,’’ said P. S. Shaji, ward member. "Our project will also enable hundreds of people to practice the yoga themselves at home after completing the course."
