Childbirth is a special experience and it’s especially significant when welcomes a new life in the world after losing several children to miscarriages. But the loss of a new member to one’s life in a matter of hours could be a lot more disheartening.

Such a tragedy hit Lizzie Allen just over a year after she had given birth to a perfectly healthy daughter following 16 miscarriages. 15-month-old Fleur-Rose lost her life to meningitis just six hours after she woke up with a fever.

Lizzie, a hair dresser, thought that the miracle child had a bug and gave her water and calpol, but in a matter of hours her daughter suffered four cardiac arrests and was declared dead.

The courageous mother, who remembers Fleur-Rose as a cheeky, giggly and well behaved child, wants other parents to know how quickly meningitis can become a fatal ailment. She rushed the child to a hospital where her oxygen levels were found to be normal and X-ray report was clear.

But then Lizzie noticed a red rash on her daughter’s neck which was spreading downwards, as doctors gave her an anti-biotics to treat meningitis, the child didn’t show improvement and the rash returned spreading upwards from her feet, as she succumbed to the illness.

It was found that Fleur-Rose was suffering from meningitis for some time but was too young to articulate her problems. Lizzie wants to spread awareness about the illness through her story, so that other lives can be saved.
