Dengue hounds Malappuram district
Another seven cases had already been confirmed in Malappuram municipal limits.
Malappuram: The health department in the district has swung into action after an outbreak of dengue fever confirmed in Karuvarakkundu and Malappuram municipal areas. 23 cases of dengue infection have been confirmed during the past week in the district. Out of the 35 suspected cases reported in Karuvarakkundu, 16 have been confirmed dengue. Another seven cases had already been confirmed in Malappuram municipal limits. More results are yet to come.
“The situation in places where the dengue cases were reported has been brought under control. The field staff is still conducting vector studies throughout the district to identify high risk areas. Once the spots are identified preventive steps will be taken to thwart any possible outbreak,” said Dr. V Ummer Farook, District Medical Officer. In the wake of the spread of infectious diseases at various places the district administration has decided to extend working hours of the laboratories in district hospitals in Nilambur, Perinthalmanna and Tirur.
