Kozhikode town beach to get an open gym
Will be built under DTPC's beach beautification project
KOZHIKODE: A morning walk on Kozhikode town beach is usual for some but soon these joggers or walkers can go to a gym on the beach with the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) all set to open a mini gym there. The gym will have a cross trainer, abs and leg shapers and a few effective body muscle developing equipment and machines. The open gym concept that has so far been seen only in metro cities is part of the DTPC’s beach beautification project for this year.
“The open gym concept is a very common in foreign countries and some of the metro cities in our country have already implemented it in parks, public spaces and beaches,” said a DTPC official. More than 200 persons come for walks or jogging during morning hours everyday on an average, and they can use the open gym. “Even 15 minutes of daily workout will make one fit and for that you need not join a gym as you can find the facility here for free,” said fitness expert N.P. Rahul. “The open gym concept is a fantastic innovation; it is a service. I hope I will be able to inspire people to work out and stay fit with the gym.”
