KIMS Doctors Perform Open-heart Surgery on 7-month-old
Kurnool: KIMS doctors in Kurnool have successfully performed open-heart surgery on a 7-month-old child, marking a first for the district. According to the hospital, this is the youngest patient to undergo such a procedure in Kurnool.
Dr. Mohammed Farooq, consultant paediatric cardiologist, explained that while Atrial Septal Defects and Ventricular Septal Defects are common in children, occurring in 3-4 out of every 1,000, the baby had a more complex condition known as Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV).
"The child's parents, agricultural labourers from Pathikonda, noticed their son was healthy until recently. Upon investigation, we diagnosed him with DORV, or Malaligned Conoventricular VSD. We performed the open-heart surgery to correct the issue," said Dr. Farooq. He added that the baby is now active and gaining weight.
