When a teenage girl who was fond of horses was unable to get one of her own, she decided to train one of the cows on their dairy farm instead. Hannah Simpson was just 11 years old when she began coaching her heifer Lilac after her parents told her that ponies were too expensive.
She has been riding Lilac through the meadows of South Island town of Invercargill, in New Zealand, for the past seven years. Although her cow is capable of jumping as high as 4.5 feet, she likes more laid back activities like bush walks and swimming.
Now Hannah has a horse named Sammy but still makes it a point to take her pet cow once a week for a ride.
