Karnataka: Youth save deer from poachers
Video of two men freeing deer from snares goes viral on soclal media.
Chamrajanagar: The government may have set up sanctuaries to protect the state's wildlife, but this is clearly not stopping poachers from killing animals. However, luckily for two deer trapped in snares laid by poachers in the Muthathi forest range of the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, a couple of passersby spotted their agony and rescued them.
While a video of the two young men freeing the deer from the snares went viral on Wednesday, the two good Samaritans have not been identified as yet.
It appears that while passing through Muthathi on a two wheeler, they parked by the roadside to watch monkeys and heard some moans from the bushes. On going to investigate, they found a deer struggling in a snare laid by poachers and rushing to its rescue, freed it, only to see one more deer trapped in another snare. Freeing it too they saw the animals sprint back into the forest safe and sound.
But not stopping there, the two decided to look around and found another snare, which they proceeded to remove to protect the other animals that could have found themselves trapped in it otherwise. While the two got huge applause on social media, forest officials claimed they too often removed snares laid down by poachers mainly for rabbits.
