Five peacocks found dead in Hayathnagar of Hyderabad
An autopsy was conducted on the dead birds.
Hyderabad: Five peacocks were found dead in Hayathnagar. Police said that on Tuesday morning, Gutta Surender Reddy came to his open plot. He found five peacocks of which four were dead and one was gasping for breath. It also died after sometime. Based on his complaint police registered a case. “We have informed forest officials and the case will be transferred to them. We are also inquiring,” Hayathnagar inspector J. Narender Goud said.
An autopsy was conducted on the dead birds. “The samples were sent for forensic analysis,” forest range officer A. Ravinder Reddy said. Police suspects the birds could have died due to food poisoning or by drinking contaminated water.
“It could be an act of poachers who poison them and later after death sell the meat and feathers,” another official said.
Locals said there were around 100 peacocks moving around in the nearby forests but the number has come down to less than 50 due to poaching and migration.
