Keep your pet safe during monsoon
Here are a few tips to keep your pet healthy during monsoon.
Just like summer, dogs need good care during monsoon too. During the season, it may not be possible to take dogs out for a long walk. Even if we want to do that, extra care should be given to the pet as they are prone to diseases and infections when it rains. Here are a few tips to keep your pet healthy during monsoon.
Keep the fur dry: The skin is highly prone to bacterial infection. Rub your dog before and after the walk. You can also blow dry the fur, but be careful not to get the hair tangled. You can also use raincoats, but still, you should pat dry.
Clean paws: These are also sensitive as they are in contact with the ground. Make your dog wear protective shoes. It will prevent mud, water, insects and grass from entering the paws. If your dog is not comfortable with it, just wipe its paws with lukewarm water and soft towel soon after an outdoor walk.
Keep the bed dry: If your pet loves spending more time on the terrace, make sure to cover the bedding area for warmth. Also, bedding should be changed frequently to avoid bacterial accumulation.
Conduct indoor exercises: As it is difficult for your dog to play out in the monsoon, you can make some arrangements for training, inside the home. Create a pattern in tune with your living space and comfort level of your pet. For instance, if you are living in an apartment, you can use the stairs instead of elevator.
Make monsoon-friendly diet: Create a fibre-rich diet plan to help digestion. Since the amount of exercise is less during monsoon, feed the dog accordingly.
Make it feel comfy: Dogs are afraid of the sound of thunder. It may lead to fear and anxiety. In such situations, make the pet feel secure, say by hugging or being near by.
