Hyderabad records 160 bird species

Hyderabad: About 90 enthusiasts recorded nearly 160 species of birds in the city during the 8th Hyderabad Bird Race on Sunday.

Oriental White-Eye

The bird-watchers, divided into groups of five, spent the day identifying as many bird species as possible.

Bronze Winged Jacana

The teams visited open habitats, agricultural tracts, semi-arid landscapes, inland wetlands, secondary growth, and areas with human population.

Crested Serpent Eagle

The most popular places were Manjeera sanctuary, Narsapur forest, Himayatsagar and Anantagiri Hills.

White- Throated Kingfisher

The Great Hyderabad Adventure Club along with the city’s birding community organises the race to create awareness about bird coversation and protection of its habitat. Earlier, bird races had recorded more than 180 species.

Red Avadavat

There were no pre-determined routes; the participants observed birds at multiple locations and came up with their own tally of species.
