Coonoor: Tiger, leopard spell double-trouble
Residents are recalling man-eater episodes' in the hills in the recent past in the wake of the latest sighting.
COONOOR: It is virtual double-trouble for residents of the Attadi area on the outskirts of Coonoor town with the movement of a tiger as well as of a leopard.
Residents are recalling ‘man-eater episodes’ in the hills in the recent past in the wake of the latest sighting.
In the middle of last week, the sudden appearance of a tiger near a rock in Attadi triggered panic. The tiger movement was observed for a couple of days last week. Now, for the past couple of days, tiger movement has vanished, but the movement of a leopard in the same vicinity, have added to people's concern.
Forest department sources said that there is a jungle some distance away from Attadi village. The tiger and leopard could have strayed into the jungle fringes along the village to bask in the sun.
Since there were no reports about attacks, either on livestock or humans, there was no need to panic as these carnivores would slowly withdraw into the jungles on their own, they observed.
Residents and other regular travelers and plantation labourers in the Attadi area, nevertheless, want the foresters to place cages at several points to capture the tiger and the leopard.
