What the mutt? Meet the world's ugliest dogs
The Sonoma-Marin Fair is holding its annual canine competition with a twist.
Hundreds of unattractive dogs from around the world will be gathering in the same spot to battle for an unusual contest - World's Ugliest Dog.
That's right, these mangy mutts are set to compete at the annual event at the Sonoma-Marin Fair, in Petaluma, California, the Daily Mail reported. Some of the contestants have squashed faces, fur issues and tongues that are permanently sticking-out.
But fret not dog lovers, this competition is not to be cruel. "We're proud to celebrate all dogs and pets by showing that no matter their imperfections, they are adoptable, lovable and a great addition to any family,” Erin Post, CEO of the Sonoma-Marin Fair told the Daily Mail.
The competition will be held on June 23. The first prizewinner will win $1,500. The winner will also be flown to New York City to make several media appearances.
So, what does it take for a dog to win this contest? Judges will be looking at two main criteria:
* Audience's reaction to the mutt’s appearance for the first time.
* Owner's show of love toward their strange-looking pets.
Fair said every year people reveal the most heart-warming bonding stories between man and his best friend. "I have had dog owners tell me their dog has emotionally saved their lives - it is actually powerful to witness,” he told Daily Mail.
While people are used to parading beautiful dogs, this contest celebrates all the unique parts that don't make a dog pretty to human standards. People who attend the event, Fair reveals absolutely can't get enough of it.
