A sex therapist claims social media is making millennials lonely.

90-year-old Dr Ruth Westheimer  feels this is making it difficult for millennials to hold on to romantic relationships, the Independent revealed.

Westheimer feels the digital world and constant use of it is hampering peoples' social skills in real life.

"I'm very concerned about loneliness," she told The Sunday Telegraph. "People are losing the art of conversation. They’re constantly on their iPhones. You see the couples sit sown in restaurants both with their phone on the table.

"It's a big problem for the relationships."

Dr Westheimer will be hosting a programme to tackle such issues and hopes it will encourage young people to spend less time on the internet and make real connections.

A new study found that lonely millennials have a higher risk of experiencing mental health problems.

The findings were published in the journal Psychological Medicine.
