Is playing hard to get the in thing? Or do youngsters prefer someone open and approachable? With various guides about what gets the person of the opposite sex more interested, one of the go-to advice has been ‘playing hard to get.’ Many people believe that playing hard to get with the person that you are seeking out to be intimate with, can make them more attracted towards you. Is this really true or just an old myth? To find out we talk to the youth of the city and get their opinions on the same.

A lot of men usually think that playing hard to get is the best way to get someone attracted to you. However the answers from women say otherwise, Hridya Mariam George a student of sociology said, “Playing “hard to get” is the most popular approach that guys take while making their moves on a girl. For all of you that don’t realise it it’s a complete failure. You won’t come off as a diva that is wanted by many women but as a completely arrogant person instead. Instead of trying to come off as a “Casanova” spend some quality time with your date and show genuine interest in the person; this is more likely to get you a few successful dates.”  Tanya George said, “Sometimes playing hard to get is a turn-off. Like, girls do hate desperate guys but they also hate egoistic ones. I like guys who are honest.”

On hearing the opinion of women on the topic one might think that it must be the complete opposite for men that men, in fact, like women that play hard to get. If you think that their answers will definitely surprise you, Kevin J Thomas a student of literature said, “I believe that it doesn’t matter whether you play hard to get or don’t as long as you make a good first impression, that’s your bait, that’s what controls the outcome of everything else.”

Shivansh Tiwary a student of psychology said, “First impressions nowadays include the display of tenderness and chivalry instead of the old macho attitude. Also, the location of the date plays a huge role, the things you do to impress someone in a book store are different from those you would do at a dance club or a restaurant.”

After the breaking of this stereotype, you might wonder what actually gets the other person hooked on to you, Chavi Mehta a student from Christ  said, “Humour always helps. Also, listening to the other person talk and not the other way around is like a good move. If you are going on a date with a girl being a good listener helps.”

Janani Venkateswaran a student pursuing psychology says, “The other person definitely needs to make conversation otherwise they might lose track of where the date is heading. You have to be interested in what the other person is saying.”
