Hampi, Anegundi in Ramayana tourist circuit

The circuit will cover Hampi and Anegundi, as it is believed to be Kishkindha of the Ramayana.

In the first phase, the Ramayana circuit will be developed in Ayodhya, Nandigram, Shringverpur and Chitrakoot in UP. Sitamarhi, Buxar and Darbhanga in Bihar, Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh, Bhadrachalam in Telangana and Rameshwaram in TN are likely to be added to the circuit later. In Sri Lanka, the circuit will include Ravana's palaces, Ashok Vatika and Hanuman's entry point among other places.

Ballari: The world heritage site of Hampi, the 15th century capital of the Vijayanagar kings and the cradle of the empire, Anegundi, in Karnataka, are expected to find  place in the Ramayana circuit planned by the Centre for tourists.

Sources in the Union ministry of tourism said a detailed project report (DPR) had been prepared in June for the Ramayana circuit ,which will be spread across India and Sri Lanka with its many places of significance to Lord Rama and demon king Ravana, who spirited away his wife, Sita, to the island nation going by Hindu mythology. “Under the MoU  inked with Sri Lankan government in June,  Indian tourists visiting the Ramayana circuit in Sri Lanka will receive all help from the latter and  visitors from Sri Lanka,  a predominantly Buddhist country, will be offered smooth passage while visiting various Buddhist circuits here,” said an official.

The circuit will cover Hampi and Anegundi, as it is believed to be Kishkindha of the Ramayana, he said. The project will see the Centre develop places of significance to Lord Rama in collaboration with the Sri Lankan government before throwing them open to tourists, going by sources. Just two phases of the  project is expected to cost Rs 244.51 crore.
