1 Kapu Beach, the lesser known gem — a little less commercial than the other beaches on the coast, this place offers a spectacular view with clean waters for a quick dip. Kapu Beach is a landmark with a signature lighthouse, making it a picture perfect getaway. Within a given time frame, they allow you to get on top of the light house, using spiral stairs, making it a climb that’s worth the while. It is a perfect spot to enjoy the sunset with a view.
2 Malpe Beach: This beach is where the crowd is at. The whole town gathers here to enjoy the sunset. For foodies, there are a whole lot of treats on offer. Many shacks serve fresh catch of the day, finger food and snacks that keep a vegetarian happy too. The place even offers camel rides, horse rides, ATVs, parasailing and banana boat rides to keep the young ones on their toes, making it a perfect family getaway.
3 St. Mary’s Island: The hidden treasure of Malpe, Manipal — This is an island nestled 30 minutes away from Malpe Beach. Perfect to spend a day with nature, enjoying the pristine waters that Manipal has to offer. Fisherman take you to this island by boat, and you can spend a day walking by and exploring this tiny island.
4 Apart from the beaches, the land of temples has the beautiful Krishna Mutt. The temple of Lord Krishna that brings devotees from the world over. A visit to the Krishna Mutt is not complete without devouring some delicious Goli-Bajje. Mangalore Bhajji is the best at a signature place called Mitra Samaj. Don’t forget to indulge in the world famous Gud-Bud Icecream that Mangalore, Manipal has in store for you.
5 Right from the backwaters to the hanging bridges there is a whole lot more that Manipal has to offer. A travel tip is always to dig deep and live like a local no matter which part of the world you travel to. Sticking to hotels and visiting the most touristy places is just the surface. Let the culture and traditions of the place you visit drown you in its beauty. Indulge in community activities and make friends with the locals, become a part of the place you visit and it becomes a part of you.
