When in ROME...
A huge fan of Roman Holiday, entrepreneur Anjalli Sukumaran fell in love with the Italian city and shares some travel tips...
1. Visit the Vatican City: The first thing we did was take a train to the Vatican in the morning, because one cannot leave Rome without seeing the home of the Pope. We were super lucky that it was a Sunday, so we got an opportunity to see and hear the Pope at St Peter’s Square. You can get a glimpse of the Pope there every Sunday at 12 noon. The Vatican is truly beautiful and has a very rich cultural history.
2. Castel St Angelo: There is a fort called Castel St Angelo located close to the Vatican. If you have watched the Da Vinci Code, you’d know that there is a passage that connects the two places. It is situated right next to the banks of the River Tiber.
3. The Pantheon: We walked to the Pantheon right after visiting Castel St Angelo. It is one of the most well-preserved buildings in the world and still looks the same as it did 2,000 years ago (with a few restorations, of course). This ancient Roman temple has the biggest brick dome in architectural history.
4. Trevi Fountain: Another ancient Roman architectural gem, legend has it that if you throw a coin into this fountain, it is said that you’d return to Rome for sure. They use all the money that’s thrown into the fountain to help fund food for people in need.
5. The Colosseum: Italy is synonymous with this address! You would be crazy not to visit it. We went to the Colosseum right before sunset and took some beautiful pictures of this monumental amphitheatre. It is as beautiful as seen in pictures. You must taste the famed Gelatos and pizzas. We also went to a wonderful place called G Fassi, the oldest Gelato place in Rome. It had a super long queque and oodles of options.
