While the idea of working on the first day of the year may spell gloom-doom to most.

Stoked about the New Year bash? Well, some aren’t, only because they are working. It’s that time of the year when you’d probably be fussing over your sartorial choices and peering into online portals to grab a steal deal, in order to ring in the first day of the year with revelry, but there are probably another bunch of go-getters with a different tale to share. While the idea of working on the first day of the year may spell gloom-doom to most, a huddle of Bengalureans are ready to be active on the first day of the year — and with gusto! In a candid chat, they tell us more...

“Being a part of a team, which will be hosting two of the biggest parties in town, it’s part and parcel of our jobs. We’ve got to ensure sales are in place, service is at its best, production is on point and at the same time keep a smile on our faces and be our hospitable best,” shares Ojal Kulkarni,  a 24-year-old, founding member and BDM, of SteppinOut, an event management firm. Not in denial of how it can get a little unnerving, the youngster believes it’s important to take it in her stride. “Working around this time of the year has obvious drawbacks. But, we get to do what we love the most — create an unforgettable experience for people. To know that we have two weeks off right after NYE makes things all the more exciting,” quips Ojal. DJ Baljinder Nagra, resident DJ at Horn Ok Please, enthuses how it’s about wrinkling out the common perceptions, “I think the hullabaloo around working on the first is hyped. Yes, it can feel a little weird to turn down an invite, as you are working, but  honestly, I look forward to the idea of working on the first day of the year as it feels more productive and the chances of facing the blues of going back to work the next day are minimal.”

Theatre artiste Nitya J Rao, who’s prepping for an upcoming play reveals how she’s ecstatic to start the year on a hectic note! “The celebration of a New Year comes in the form of getting to spend the whole day doing something I absolutely love. It really isn’t like on January 1, something out of the world needs to happen for me to remember it. It’s already happening. And I’m in the middle of it all, doing what I will be doing all year, without a complaint.”

Echoing similar views, Sandalwood film maker KM Chaitanya, who will be completing the last leg of his forthcoming thriller, Aake, opines, “They say what you do on the first day of the year, defines the rest. For better or worse, I find myself working on the first of January 2017. I enjoy working. Being jobless frustrates me. So this year looks promising. I’m starting the year immersed in work.” Spending time at his work space at the start of the year is time well-spent, Anil Shetty says,  “I will be at my work station, drafting my third read. I think it’s important to do what you love. And if you are, then I don’t think the date or the time matters. Because, I believe feeling good is the secret to raising a toast to the New Year, So, whether you’re working or not, keep up the spirits!”
