Love is in the details
Large windows and ventilators help good air circulation.
When Dubai-based engineer PV Rijul wanted to construct a house, his wife Rijisha took charge of the designing; the result was a wonderful contemporary house with all modern facilities. The 3,000-sq ft house in Kozhikode is designed to decrease soaring temperature during summer and also is lit by natural light.
At present, Rijul's parents are residing in the newly-constructed house, named Ishq. “Rijisha had several ideas and she incorporated. Though we hired interior designers, several of the ideas mainly came from her,” said Vishwan, Rijul's father.
“Though we have lived here only from the start of the year, we love the home very much. It is very cozy and cool inside. We have given large windows and ventilators for good air circulation. The temperature inside the house is much less due to the high ceiling and roof tiles,” he said.
The house has four bedrooms, a study and a home theatre. “We designed the house to make use of most of the natural light. The place adjacent to dining room has a small lawn and the roof is covered with ceiling. We have never used lightings during daytime,” he says.
The flooring is done using Marbonite. The owners have also given special care for interior designing with peculiar color combination and artifacts donning the guest area. The car porch is designed to go on with the house design and is attractive.
The house has a height of a three-storey building. “Greater the ceiling height, lesser the room temperature. This is what we have understood,” he said. The wood paneling works in the bedrooms are attractive and the lighting gives a serene feel. “They wanted to have a cozy place when they come from Dubai. The house was their dream project,” said Vishwan.
