French cartoonist shows how to tackle Islamophobia in four simple steps in viral post
A designer named Maeril has posted a guide to deal with Islamophobes.
In an environment of fear and hostility that has engulfed the world in the aftermath of devastating terror attacks, Islamophobia has become another major cause of concern for the world with hate crimes and resentment on the rise.
The discrimination and harassment has only grown worse with the advent of the likes of Donald Trump and right wing groups across Europe, as people are trying to diffuse the situation by dealing with the hysteria in a tactful manner.
As France has been facing a tense environment after a string of terror attacks, an artist from the country named Maeril has posted a guide to deal with Islamophobes. The illustration has been designed as a part of her work for The Middle Eastern Feminist on Facebook.
The guide offers a four step solution for handling the shocking situation when someone is faced with Islamophobic harassment. She asks bystanders to indulge the victim in conversation and ignore the aggressor.
She then asks the person to keep the conversation going as long as the victim feels safe and the she asks them to not acknowledge the attacker, and then respect the victim’s wishes if they want to leave.
Maeril developed the plan on the basis of a psychological concept called non-complementary behaviour, where one adopts the conduct opposite to the other person to tackle the problem.
