Doesn’t the very thought of somebody peering through your innermost thoughts send a chill down your spine? Well, Bengaluru-based mentalist Narpath Raman aims to do just that – with a tinge of eccentricity and mind magic, of course! In a candid tete-a-tete, the man behind the popular Brain Brewery show takes us through the science and what to expect from his forthcoming show on May 8.

Tracing his tryst with mind reading back to an innate passion that sprouted during his coffee breaks of a regular 9 to 5, back in the year 2013, Narpath vividly tells us, “I remember taking time off to learn a few magic hacks through YouTube videos. One thing led to the other, and I realised magic is, more often than not, an illusion that comes from challenging varied dynamics of the mind.” Fast forward to three years, and the software techie turned mainstream mind reader has over 12 shows to his credit.

“While it’s been a journey fraught with challenges that often left me intrigued, being a mentalist has made me privy of how the most powerful organ in the human body works. My mind reading shows are not only amazingly funny, but very uniquely engages the audience with unbelievable demonstrations of influence, predictions, people reading, telepathy and precognition that leave them inspired.”

Clearing the air about the myths about mind reading, Narpath promptly stresses, “Firstly, being a mentalist, especially in India, is tough. They always misconceive me for an astrologer. Mentalists are not. Nobody comes with an inbuilt mechanism to make a precise judgment of the same. Instead, we look at the casual factors behind reflexes, and how it profoundly impacts our thinking.”

While shows take most of his time, the soccer fanatic reveals how his innate ability to discern has become a second nature. “I observe people all the time – What they wear, how they talk, who they talk to. Everything. I know it sounds creepy but I do it all the time!” chuckles the 26-year-old, who’s first venture is on its way. “I will be conducting corporate training programs. The idea is to help people spot a lie, gauge someone’s most deeply conceived emotions and ways to manage yours!” signs off the psychological entertainer with a winsome smile.
