Lyricist B.K. Harinarayanan inaugurates the rendition of malayalam poems by kindergarten students at Devamatha School in Thrissur on Kerala Piravi Day.

Thrissur: The kids at the kindergarten at Devamatha CMI Public School here celebrated the 60th Kerala Piravi day on Tuesday by attempting to enter the Limca Books of Records by rendering Malayalam poems penned by poets like Kunjunni Mash and Mahakavi Ulloor S Parameswara Iyer. As many as 523 kindergarten students sung the poems on 14 different stages set inside the school campus by splitting up into different groups.

The co-ordinator of the event, Matilda Josmer, told DC that the representatives of Limca records were expected to attend the event but they did not turn up. Instead they sent a guideline for the event and the record attempt was followed accordingly.  She said that besides setting the record, the aim was to create love for the mother tongue among the kids along with learning the exact pronunciation of the language.

“All the video footage of the 14 different stages where the kids rendered the poems along with documental evidence and photograph will be sent to the Limca Books of Records within a week. As we have followed all the guidelines to set the record, we are pretty confident that the kids will enter the record books,” she added. Lyricist B K Harinarayanan and principal of the school Fr. Shaju Edamana among others were present.
