A dosa' of rap
The Kannada rapper released Nanna Kathe which has been going viral online.
He’s crooned for movies like Shuddhi and Humble Politician Nograj, and now he’s out with his very own track that he’s been working on for a long time now. Rapper Aditya Parashar’s Nanna Kathe, which released last month, has managed to spike the interest of music lovers online. Talking about the catchy rap single, Aditya says, “It’s a slightly generic number about how lives go by in general. The lines are relatable and show the ups and downs in life. It’s more like inspirational rap. There’s also a part that talks about me and how the best of me is yet to come. Nanna Kathe is everyone’s story from their perspective. There’s half a verse in English too. I wanted non-Kannadigas to get a feel of the song as well so that they would get inquisitive about it and listen to the track and learn the language.”
Ask him about the response to the number so far and he reveals, “People have messaged in telling me they love the verses and that the hook is very addictive. I’ve also had prominent rappers like MC Bijju, SID, Rahul Dit O and many others sharing the song.”
While Aditya is behind the vocals, the music is from Jamal Music, a copyright and royalty free music platform. “We made slight changes and mixed it at Oktave Studios,” says the engineer, who’s now a full-time producer with a popular radio station. Considering that this song was personal to him, what particularly inspired him while creating this piece of work? “Rappers like Logic who talk about bouncing back are inspiring. I’m a huge Eminem fan and his lyrics motivate me. My whole point was to make the Kannada audience understand what rap is. There are people who think that rap is something that is sung by this particular famous singer in Karnataka, but it’s much more than that.”
Interestingly, the special mention of masala dosa in the track is due to the rapper’s huge love for dose. “I’m a huge dosa person — there was a time when I did a trip in south India and gorged on dosa on all the 11 days of the tour. In fact, someone even parcelled dosa to my house on my birthday as a gift,” he laughs.
