Her art in the right place
Neha Verma, who had set her eyes on becoming an artist from a very young age, is readying to display her work at the Indian Art Fair.
To many of those who find themselves making a career in art, it is often the result of happenstance rather than a conscious career choice. Not so for Neha Verma who knew exactly what she wanted to do in life. The artist now will be exhibiting her art at the renowned Indian Art Fair that brings together not only the best galleries, exhibitors and artists from across the country, but also has placed India on the global art map.
Graduating from the famed Benaras Hindu University with a degree in Fine Arts, she followed this with a Masters degree in the subject from Sarojini Naidu School of Fine Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad.
Neha bagged the Kalakriti art residency, right after the final display for her Master’s project. Speaking about her work that will be exhibited at the Indian Art Fair she explains that the architecture in places like Chowmahallah Palace inspired most of her body of work.
“I have been working with the concept of architecture and the various motifs related to it. The idea emerged when I visited Chowmahallah Palace and saw a couple of old royal carpets displayed on the walls. Once the idea germinated, I started researching over the ancestry of carpets, which mostly date back to Persia. The fine tuning started, and the concept evolved around how a carpet is an extremely important part of architecture,” she elaborates.
Neha is reluctant to leave Hyderabad and its rich architectural heritage, but is hoping Lucknow’s cultural history will keep her occupied.
