#TweetYourPeriod fights the stigma of period shaming on social media
The Twitter trend #TweetYourPeriod aims to shake up the awkward silence around periods and get women to talk about it comfortably.
One would think that the hyper sexualisation of the female body would have made it easier for women to discuss about completely normal biological processes like menstruation. However, this is far from the truth. Open discussions about periods and anything even indirectly related to it is still a taboo.
But the Twitter trend #TweetYourPeriod aims to shake up the awkward silence around periods and get women to talk about it comfortably in the public sphere. After all why should something that is experienced by half of the world’s population at some point in their lives should be spoken about in hush-hush tones?
The #TweetYourPeriod has women speaking about their personal period experiences by joking, cribbing and even giving health tips on the micro-blogging website Twitter. Check out some of these awesome tweets and let us know what you think.
