Matilda Jones was in the water waist-deep at Dozmary Pool  when she came across the 4ft long  blade, the Daily Mail reported.

King Arthur is believed to have rowed on the waters of Dozmary Pool to receive Excalibur from the Lady of Lake. Dozmary Pool is reportedly the place where Arthur returned the sword after being wounded in Battle of Camlann. Legend has it that the Lady of the Lake's arm rose to receive it.

"She was only waist deep when she said she could see a sword," Matilda's father Paul Jones told the Daily Mail. "I told her not to be silly and it was probably a bit of fencing, but when I looked down I realised it was a sword. It was just there laying flat on the bottom of the lake."

As exciting as the prospect might be that this may be the real thing, Jones believes the origin of the sword maybe more recent. "I don't think it's particularly old. It's probably an old film prop."

At least it makes for a memorable story for the family.
