91-year-old woman who ditched cancer treatment to go on road trip passes away
Norma refused to have chemotherapy after she was diagnosed soon after her husband of 67 years, Leo, passed away.
A 91-year-old woman who chose to forgo treatment after being diagnosed with terminal cancer and undertake a road trip with her family passed away on 30th September, 2016. Norma Bauerschmidt, from Michigan, won many fans on social media because of accounts of her travels across the country.
Norma refused to have chemotherapy after she was diagnosed soon after her husband of 67 years, Leo, passed away. So, Norma along with her son Tim and her daughter-in-law Ramie decided to set off on an adventurous road trip across the United States. After being told that there was no guarantee that she’d survive the surgery and chemotherapy, she chose to spend whatever time she had left doing things that made her happy.
Her Facebook page, Driving Miss Norma, updated about Norma’s demise on 1st October, 2016 with a post that read: ‘Life is a balance between holding on and letting go. – Rumi. Today we are letting go.’
