How different would your life be if wading through the city’s traffic wasn’t a concern? Given the present scenario, the idea might sound like an instance of chasing rainbows. But, that’s exactly what young Bengalurueans Shariq Rahman and Ben Joseph wish to change – through Take it and Go, an eco friendly hyper local delivery venture operated by bicycles.

In a candid chat, they tell us more, just as they prep to host ‘Fast freaking ride’, an ultra fast pace 10 km cycling event which will see enthusiasts saddle away from Indiranagar to Cubbon Park on November 10.

“Be it cold food, delayed orders, forgetting things at home, or just plain laziness to get out of the house – blaming it all on Bengaluru traffic seems like the way out. As much as we bought it, it also irked us. That’s when we decided to provide a service that addresses all these issues, with our bicycles. The same bicycles we use to commute, race and tour. After all, the biggest cities in the world are using bicycles to get work done. So, why not us?” questions Shariq, a 27-year- old product design graduate from Coventry school of art and design, UK.

Barely a couple of weeks since the idea materialised, and the duo are already making themselves heard. “We have received about 20 applications so far from cyclists in the city, who would love to work with us on the venture. Our larger goal would be to tie up with a few NGOs so we can work collectively to generate employment,” reveals Ben, an alumnus of HTMI, Soerenberg, Switzerland.

Entrepreneurs by the day and innate cyclists at all other times, the duo let us in on how they indulge their other interests. “Most of my interests are deeply rooted in all things creative. Designing new products photography and sketching is what I love,” pipes Shariq. Ben, on the other hand, says, “Creating new dishes and juices are something I love doing. I’m also an avid traveller and love phone photographer.”

Speaking about what’s next, Shariq signs off by stating, “Most people believe cycling in Bengaluru traffic is really dangerous, the truth is if you follow a few certain guidelines, it’s the most liberating experience ever. Through efficient delivery of just about anything on cycles, hopefully we will help this city reduce its carbon foot print!”
