Artrysts with melody
From crooning to getting chatty, this city girl is all set to launch her web series that will get up, close and personal with artistes.
She wowed audiences when she crooned on The Stage two years ago and now, she’s all set to tread a ‘chatty’ path as she launches her own web-series.
Songstress Soundarya Jayachandran, who has been entertaining listeners with her captivating voice, gets talking to us about her series Bsides, her tryst with varied artistes and more…
“The web series was a random idea that I had. Being an independent musician, I wanted to do something where people would get to know musicians better. I also wanted to collaborate with them. So, I got in touch with all kinds of musicians and decided to interview them. It was quite a learning experience for me,” she reveals.
Ask her why she chose the name Bsides for her show and she replies, “Every cassette has a ‘b’ side to it. Similarly, every musician has two sides. We mostly get to see just one side to them, this show will show their other side too — it’s about discovering them beyond their music and glamour.”
Each episode of Bsides will last eight minutes and the first five minutes will be dedicated to a tête-a-tête between Soundarya and the guest. “I’m going to ask them things that will focus on the person they are. Post that, we will go to the studio and jam together. I kept it short so that it would be crisp, clear and I wanted each episode to sound fresh,” says the singer of her series, which will start airing in mid-March on her YouTube channel Soundarya Official. Having shot for seven episodes with various artistes, she says, “We have a mix of musicians on the show — from Hindi and English to regional ones. Some of them are rappers, some are keyboardists and there are also singer-songwriters and playback singers. Ninety-five per cent of the music that will be showcased will be their original work.”
Apart from the show, this zealous artiste has been working on her original music and wants to focus on production in the upcoming months. When it comes to her musical ambition in life, Soundarya has a clear-cut goal. “I want to eventually do some business with music — whether it’s as a recording artiste, or a lyricist — I love writing music. I want to make enough money from my work, and open my own music school and help the less fortunate. Music can change people’s lives and be a form of education.”
