Seafood to silver screen
For seafood exporter Anitha Thomas, who is also a dancer, cook and actor, no-compromise is her mantra to success.
A successful businesswoman, trained dancer, passionate cook, and now an actor, Anitha Thomas has tried her luck in everything she is inclined towards and has emerged a clear winner. She has been running a company that exports seafood from Kerala to international markets like Spain and Italy.
As she puts it, “I am one of the very few businesswomen who are into seafood exporting. It is mainly because the business requires interacting with people from different strata and may be women find it a bit hectic. We purchase goods from local fishermen and sell it in the global market. This clearly explains the type of people we deal with on a daily basis.”
Twenty years into seafood business, Anitha says that she is a self-made woman and has never compromised with her principles to reach the position she is at now.
What’s more, the busy businesswoman has taken a step further and has tried a hand in acting as well. Anitha is all set to make her acting debut with Abrid Shine’s Poomaram. The movie which is already in the spotlight for its super hit song Poomaram will also mark the comeback of Kalidas Jayaram. She says that it was through one of her friends that she got the call for Poomaram. “Our alumni association presents a drama every year during our alumni meet. A friend of mine who is also a friend of Abrid gave him my photographs and that is how he asked me to audition for Poomaram.” Anitha, who says that she has limitations in revealing the details of her character, adds that it is a pivotal one.
Amid her busy schedule, Anita never gave up on her passions of dancing and cooking and says that these are her stress-busters. A trained Mohiniyattom dancer, she has performed at various stages including charity programmes.
Asked about the hurdles she had to face while getting into business as a woman, Anitha says that no woman needs to feel intimidated in pursuing her dreams. She faces many obstacles, but every issue has helped her evolve as a businesswoman and as a person. She also stresses that if one is confident and well qualified for the task undertaken, there is no need to compromise on anything.
