When vintage meets contemporary
Sadkath's house in Mankavu is a mix of vintage interiors and contemporary-style architecture.
From fashion to architecture, vintage is back home. Step into one of today’s modern homes owned by Sadkath at Mankavu, Kozhikode, and you will be surprised to find some vintage fixtures all over the place. The businessman has spiced up his beautiful abode with vintage features.
Located in 7.25 cents of land, this 3,000 sq ft vintage house opens its gate to a sit-out that features furniture brought from a bygone era. An arch-shaped entry leads to a beautiful sitting area, which is also connected with the living room. This space is the family’s hangout area enclosed from three sides.
“The construction of the house and the interiors were completed just two months back,” says Sadkath, whose only priority was a contemporary house with old-fashioned features and strictly no Kerala traditional architecture. “I was always impressed by the vintage style of architecture and interiors from the various countries I have travelled to,” he reasons.
The living room sports imported furniture showcasing classy style. The open living area, dining hall and kitchen add to the charm. “I love the concept of live kitchen and added some frames and gears to beautify it,” says Subzil, wife of Sadkath.
The other predominant features of the house are the Dutch doors and wide stairs leading to the first floor which is split into two. “In some parts of the house, we have installed vintage model lights and ceiling medallions,” he explains.
The first floor houses two bedrooms which have minimal furniture. The family deliberately chose a dark style with less illumination here, for want for quietness and privacy. However, the first floor has a common sitting space and a utility area. The vertical garden gives the house a rich, elegant look. Sadkath lives in the house with Subzil, their daughters Raihana, Eva Mariam and son Abu Leron.
