A short maze of crime
El Crimen Perfecto by Indian is a short film with an element of suspense.
There are not many known bounty hunter in this part of the country. But in his new film, El Crimen Perfecto, actor Indian who has proved his mettle, is turning director , in which he tell the story of a bounty hunter.
Indian has become a regular face among the young actors who have emerged in the past few years. With more than 15 movies to his credit, he thinks it is time to move onto his biggest ambition, direction.
“Though people know me as an actor, I always wanted to become a director that everyone talks about. Short films are good way to start with. They give you a lot of freedom and the risk factor is less compared to full-length movies. Though I have already worked for a short film before, this one would officially be my first directorial venture,” says Indian.
El Crimen Perfecto, or ‘The Perfect Crime’, is about a crime that happens in two different rooms at the same time in a motel.
When asked about the title, Indian says it has nothing to do with the Spanish-American movie of the same title. “Both has different storyline. I just wanted to have a title that grabs attention.”
Indian says the movie was completed two years ago but he never thought of launching it on a public platform like YouTube. “I am a student of Maharaja’s Law College. My specialisation is LLB in Criminology. So during a college fest, there was a short film competition and the theme that we were given was crime, obviously. So being a fan of crime thriller movies, my friends and I decided to make a short film. Everyone encouraged me to write, direct and edit it. It was shot at a friend’s homestay in Fort Kochi,” he added. To his surprise, the film was declared best short film and won him best director’s prize. Being a Quentin Tarantino fan he had always wanted to be part of crime thrillers. So during the making of his short film, he definitely invoked Tarantino. “I love his style and unique way of storytelling. Also, I am not interested in cliché subjects that have nothing new to offer.”
He is now working on a couple of new scripts. When asked about his upcoming projects, he said, “I always wanted to work behind the camera. Acting is not my first love. But I really enjoyed each time when I acted. Now I want to learn more about direction and want to direct movies.” The short film El Crimen Perfecto will release next week on YouTube.
