Cooking is considered an essential skill to learn, irrespective of whether you want to be a chef or not. As part of the ongoing Hyderabad Arts Festival, kids between the ages of five to 12 participated in a cookery competition and workshop on Saturday at the Phoenix Arena, Hitec city. The kids displayed their culinary skills and made desserts with mango and chocolate as the base ingredients.
Right from measuring ingredients to mixing them to get the right consistency, the junior chefs did it all by themselves. The contestants made mango-chocolate smoothie, chocolate pizza with mango toppings, chocolate mousse, cupcakes and many other mouth-watering delicacies.
The event was judged by celebrity chef Ruchika Sharma. Talking about why is it important for the parents to teach their kids the basics of cooking, Ruchika said, “Cooking is one skill that will always come in handy. Students go abroad to study and to know how to cook is very helpful. Also, most mothers these days are working, and I feel that it’s a good way to bond with your kids.”
Aarthi, mother of a four and a half year contestant Advika, said, “It is so good to see all the kids whipping up dishes. The kids also learn so much in the kitchen apart from cooking like the names of ingredients and how they look, etc. My daughter made Chocolate lollipop, and loved the experience.”
