Video: Swachh Bharat ad breaks gender stereotypes on women's day

Gender stereotypes reinforced by assigned gender roles in the society are a major barrier when it comes to establishing equality, and these roles manifest in little things from responsibilities in the household to spaces that are restricted to a certain gender.

Sanitation and cleanliness is another issue to be addressed in our country, and an advertisement for Swachh Bharat campaign seeks to break stereotypes and make cleanliness a shared responsibility, by hitting out at the notion that only women are responsible for it in a shared space.

The ad shows a man and woman talk about handling sanitation in the house and later going ahead to do it together despite their plans. It also breaks the stereotype of what a space where a man or woman reside should look like, in a rather subtle touch.
