BENGALURU: What happens when you hear that someone you love is suffering from a dreaded disease like cancer? Most people would assume that there is no hope and the end is nearing-a thought which haunted city-based Dr Madhusudhan when he was in the eighth standard, after his mother, Ms Lakshmi, was diagnosed with tongue cancer.

"Every member in the family was worried and felt that it was the end for my mother. But with the help of Dr Shabbir Zaveri of Manipal Hospital, she fought cancer and is fine now" said the doctor.

It also unleashed a thought churning process in the young boy he was. What was cancer all about? Why do people fear this disease so much ? Is it really deadly ? Or can it be cured?

He started visiting his school library and browsing centres to know more about cancer. His interest in the disease started growing with every passing day. "I decided to bust the myths associated with cancer and wanted to be a doctor to cure it. In my eighth standard, I  decided to study medicine." recalled Dr Madhusudhan.

From then on, there was no turning back for him. He went on secure a gold medal in MBBS from Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College in Kolar and has now bagged the gold medal in his MS (ENT, head and neck surgery) from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in Mumbai. Even though the demand for head and neck surgeons is huge abroad, Dr Madhusudhan said he wants to serve the people of Namma Bengaluru.
