Want to give yourself an adrenaline rush, but don’t know how to? The Auto Gymkhana 2018 is the first of its kind obstacle motorsport race event for all race lovers, and from the looks of it, it has already attracted enthusiasts to join in for the love of asphalt and tyre-crunching.

With 180 degree spins, 360 degree spins, parking boxes, figure 8s, the community can look forward to a whole gamut of possibilities. These racing lovers are now looking forward to a new kind of rally to vroom in! All it requires is a driver to manoeuvre through a predetermined track, performing different driving techniques. It features obstacles such as cones, tyres, and barrels and is being organised for the very first time in the city. The best part is that anybody with a driving license can participate in this obstacle course event.

The organisers, participants and young enthusiasts give us a sneak peek into what’s going to take place on March 10 at the Govindaraj Garden, RT Nagar. Balakrishna Jayasimha, a motor sport enthusiast for 37 years, and the organiser says, “This is the first time an event like this is taking place in India. There’s a lot of enthusiasm around it. The main idea is to get new people to participate in this fun sport. It’s not exactly what you might be expecting as we’re doing it in a parking lot, so more than the speed, technique plays an important role.” Don’t be surprised if you see people from different generations taking part in this event. All kinds of professionals, young adults and even children will take part.

Chetan Shivram, a motor sport professional, had participated in a similar event in Indonesia where he represented the country in 2005. He says, “This race requires a lot of  technique, you need to use your brain a lot. Since, they give you a map and you have to remember all the paths, where the scones are placed, etc. This is what is going to bring fresh blood to the sport, I believe. I expect a lot of new faces and good healthy competition.” While, many young talented go-kart drivers will be giving a demo run to the audience and the participated. One of the young enthusiasts is the sweet little 13-year-old girl cart driver, Shravanthika Kumaar who participates in motor sport events regularly. Other than go-kart racing, she is also a Carnatic singer. She says, “Motor sport is my passion and I love participating in each event that comes my way. I started driving only a year ago, and started off with force stroke cars which are slower, and now after training I drive two-force cars.”
