Breakup hairdo: Tress on the split' ends
The break-up hairdo trend which was initiated by Katy Perry, has found resonance amongst youngsters in the city.
Washing dirty linen in public and mulling over a relationship gone kaput are things of the past — quite literally. Letting it all go, and having your tresses do the talking is the way forward. The ‘breakup hairdo’ trend reigned supreme after Katy Perry recently posted a Boomerang video of her brand new ‘do of a platinum coloured pixie cut with a long fringe’ following her split with Orlando Bloom. History is laden with instances where public figures have been there and done that. And, now, looks like the trend is very unlikely to die down anytime soon — with a volley of Bengaluru folk following suit. We dig deeper into how the trend of nursing a broken heart, is probably the way forward through colourful hair art.
“I’ve heard of how hair makeover helps get over a breakup, but what I didn’t expect was to feel like a whole new person. I remember while going a pink Rose Gold, I spent one Saturday night out completely bleached because the process took two whole days, and I remember my friends and people who knew me take a few good minutes to even recognise me! It was exciting, like going undercover! And when my hair makeover was finally complete, it felt like I swapped those rose tinted glasses with gorgeous rose gold hair, and that feeling of feeling like a million bucks was the start of the best relationship in the world — the one with yourself,” shares Naaila Khan, a fashion curator, who’s sporting a rose gold blonde with panache and loving every bit of it.
Echoing similar lines on how the idea signifies liberation to some extend, Divyaa Doraiswamy, a shlokapreneur, Guru Kulam Shloka School, adds, “Chopping your hair is therapeutic. Also, it’s probably one of the easiest ways to usher in a ‘welcome’ change. When I was in a steady relationship, I sported a simple hairdo throughout because my husband loved it. Sporting a snazzy step cut with bangs seemed every liberating. To let it all go – the residual, people’s preferences and how much their likes and preferences meant to me.” While the responses were encouraging, what truly egged her on was the ‘me-time’ she began to invest on.” Pampering yourself post a personal loss is very important — hence this hairdo. It was a great feeling to break away, and opting for a new look was a reaffirmation of the same,” mentions Divyaa.
While the idea seems to be garnering attention of women by the hordes, men too believe in the healing effects. Rajarshi Majumdar, a management professional comments, “Guys in general have the inclination to impress their women by sporting beard and hairdos they approve of. I wouldn’t shy away from saying I ended up sporting some really weird hairdos because she liked it. I’ve always like the fuss-free look, and rushed to the salon to trim the sides of my hair just the way I always liked it. To me, it was all about cutting ties with anything associated with that phase of my life.I suggest guys in particular to do this cause it’s really feels lighter. And people also tend to digress from asking your questions about your relationship, especially when you have something more interesting to talk about.”
Expert speak: Rakesh Ahuja, a hair expert opines, “Believe it or not, but a chunk of your personality and self-esteem gets shaped by your hair. People having undergone drastic hair makeovers have come back, speaking about how the new look literally helps them move forward and turn to a new person, just like the one who stands before the mirror. Hair is also one of the aspects that get noticed at first, so the mammoth change only heralds a positive sign — of starting afresh, with a new look. When you choose to go all out and listen to your heart and sport something just because you solely approve of it, it’s pretty much about impressing yourself. Something you would’ve stopped doing.I think its a healthy and smart way to start afresh.”
