Islamabad: Last year a tea vendor from Pakistan took over the internet after a photographer posted a picture of him on her Instagram account which went viral on social media. What followed was people from across borders crushing over Arshad Khan aka Chaiwala and a journey to success with modelling assignments and even acting offers.

But it turns out that the blue eyed sensation who became famous as Pakistan’s chaiwala isn’t even a Pakistani national and might actually belong to neighbouring Afghanistan. The National Database Registration Authority in the country told Geo News that Khan didn’t have legal documents.

Reports suggested that Arshad Khan’s family may be from war torn Kandahar in Afghanistan and seem to have fraudulently acquired Pakistani documents. While Arshad Khan denied the reports, he was unable to produce documents. His manager was shocked by the discovery.

The 18-year-old has been in the news ever since he became popular on social media and made several appearances on shows as he is open to doing films. He used to sell tea in Islamabad’s Itwar Bazaar before his life changed overnight.
