Radio Koya's life goes on silver screen now

He owns a collection of wide variety of radios.

Kozhikode: The life story of K. Hydrose, popularly known as Radio Koya, the radio repairer with a collection of wide varieties of radios, gramophones and musical instruments from Kozhikode, is to be featured in a film titled ‘Kallai FM’ with Sreenivasan in the lead role. The film directed by Vineesh Parambil Bazar, under the banner Millennium Visual Media, is expected to hit the screens in February. The versatile actor plays the role of Radio Koya along with Krishna Prabha as his wife and Parvathy Ratheesh as their daughter. ‘Kallai FM’ is produced by Shajahan Oasis.

A native of Kolangarapeedika here, Radio Koya is a proud follower of Mohammed Rafi. “Every Sunday there will be a Mehfil at our residence, especially for those Rafi Saab fans like me. I used to play old records of him. Over 30 friends will be present here during Sundays to hear the unparalleled voice of the true maestro,” he says. “In the film, we had recreated the events took place in 1973 when Mohammed Rafi visited Kozhikode for his second concert, and his role will be enacted by his son Shahid Rafi in the film.“

Kozhikode native Mr Parambil Bazar's recent documentary Hijra had won the Kerala state award for the best documentary. “I got inspired by the man of radio, and I bowed to his dedication towards the legend,” he says. "Gifted actors Sreenath Bhasi and Kalabhavan Shajahan also plays important roles in the film.”
