After proudly carrying India’s heavy metal torch and representing the country at the Wacken Open Air in Germany, Hyderabad-based band Godless has come up with another EP, Swarm.

The band’s founder and bassist Syed Abbas Razvi calls the experience of performing at the Wacken Open Air, the world’s biggest stage for metal music, as memorable and breathtaking.

Describing it, Abbas says, “Performing in front of a capacity crowd of several thousands was a memorable experience. The best part of the event was sharing the stage and performing alongside the best band in the world. It just goes to show our belief that we have what it takes to make it on the world stage. We also got exposed to how metal music across the world is perceived.”

Reflecting the same confidence, the band’s second EP, Swarm, released in October is already in the news. The singles in the album have made it to some popular metal, and cultural magazines like Decibel (US), Rolling Stone and Metal Hammer (UK).

“It was a privilege and honour that our singles have been premiered on such big platforms, and I guess it’s a sign that the appreciation for our band’s network is only growing. This has prompted us to embark on a tour of eight cities in India, the biggest tour by any metal band in the country,” says Abbaz. So what went into the making of the new album? The band’s guitarist Ravi Nidamarthy states that the team had to work for a year to come up with a quality album.

“We took three years to write the songs, while recording and mastering took another three months. And then the song was mixed and mastered at Hertz Studio in Poland, the best in metal music. We want to come up with the best product that is on par with the best in the world,” he enthuses.

Within just three years, Godless has found its place among Indian metal’s most reliable, relentless bands.  Apparently, the growing fan base is also pushing them to come up with best of the tracks in metal music.

Vocalist Kaushal shares, “The scene for metal band in Hyderabad is still in the nascent stage, which is why we give performances mainly across India. However, things are improving as the number of performances in Hyderabad is also growing. We want to make sure that Hyderabad will become the best in the country for metal music.”
