Hyderabad kite club ties two Telugu states
The club has participated in over 60 competitions and are famous for their creations.
Hyderabad: Kite flying is one of the few things that unites Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Kohinoor Kite Flying Club, with 15 members, is the first registered club in the city that represents both Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh.
The club has participated in over 60 competitions and are famous for their creations — one kite they made had 600 kites on a single string.
The president of the club, Kotha Srinivas, says anyone who is an avid flyer and knows the art of making kites becomes qualified to be a member.
“Only 15 of us really know how to make the kite, and thus these are the official members of this 15-year-old club. We use Ripstop Nylon and bamboo to make the kites at our office in Balamrai,” he said.
One of the 15, John Dheeraj, says, the club needs some official recognition.
“This year, we have made a 35-ft ring kite and kites with LEDs. All we need is some recognition from the government here, since we have been representing the states,” he said.
