Much to the anticipation (and abhorrence) of many — the V-day hullaballoo has been doing the rounds since the start of the month. Brands and stores are cashing in on the fact that there still exists a gifting mandate which refuses to fizzle out. But, in a refreshing trend of sorts, or perhaps what could be perceived as a breather from the overhyped mush-filled celebrations; lasses in the city are clearly not in the mood for the same ol’ same ol’— owing to which Galentine’s Day revelry is spilling over to February 14 as well! For the uninitiated, Galantine’s Day came to the fore as a concept to indulge and let loose with your gal pals on the eve of Valentines. But, it clearly looks like Galentine’s Day fervour is yet to simmer down anytime soon — with lasses in the city taking a detour from pulling out all stops to make merry with their partners — and instead, thick plans are being made to spend time with their girl buddies on February 14. We find out more...

“The modern day Cinderella does not need her prince charming to get her a pair of shoes — or a fairytale ending. She earns it herself. So, what better day than one devoted to ‘LOVE’ to pamper herself and her girl pals? Let’s not forget when all hell breaks loose, it’s your girl buddies that will have your back. I’ve planned an intimate foot spa — with a chocolate pedicure. Post which, my girlfriends and I are all going to try out some nice shoes,” begins city-based entrepreneur Veena Chindlur. For nine to five peeps, the V-idea is mostly perceived as an over-hyped affair. So nothing makes more sense than a round of drinks post-work with your chick gang. Blogger Pranvesha adds, “We plan to catch up for a drink in the evening, post work. Post which, all my girl buddies and I are set to attend a ladies night party at Loft 38. I’d like to find out how many girls actually take on the challenge, and attend ladies nights with their girls.”

While nothing compares to revelry; it’s all about renewing old ties for pet groomer Lopa Saikia. “I’m planning a day off with my school best friend. While it’s easy to call up a friend you made recently, it’s a whole new feeling to get back to someone who knew you before a lot of things happened! It’s important to treasure old friendships — because that’s where true love often lies,” she believes. Taking us through her G-day out plans, Lopa adds,  “School friends are precious, and most close to the heart. I am lucky that I have my best friend from school here in this city. But, we choose to keep it a no-frills affair. We want to do girly stuff with no men around! We have planned for a fun swimming session, most probably at a resort in the outskirts as we both love to swim. My friend is a healer, post-swimming, we are planning to do some kind of a positive reinforcement. This will be followed  by cocktails, lunch and an evening with a wish to attend one of the crazy Valentine’s Day parties with my girls only! This Valentine’s is to my G best friend.  Oh,  I missed shopping, which is also included on the list.”

Educating and informing those around her, especially women is what  Priyanka PV, an academician has planned. “I’m planning to spend my day with my best friend giving a pathways presentation at a Toastmaster’s meeting in the city on Valentine’s Day. That may not sound insanely fun but I believe it will make me a lot happier towards the end of the day,” she signs off.
