Feel the breeze as you watch movies
Instead of sitting in a closed door air-conditioned theatre, you can go back to watching movies outdoors, on gigantic screens under stars.
Often, we have heard localites complaining about there being nothing new or exciting in the city. For Bengalureans, it's the same old cycle of working everyday and hanging out at pubs and bars and getting sloshed on weekends.
Seems like a never-ending cycle! But a much-needed fun activity has arisen in the city — open air film screenings! Now, instead of sitting in a dark theatre, namma ooru is opting for watching their favourite films on gigantic screens in lawns under the stars!
Open air theatres are back by popular demand in our city and we couldn’t be more excited! Speaking up on how the idea struck him, Safdhar Adoor, one of the founders of Steppinout movie Nights, says, “The concept has been present abroad for a long time. When I travelled to different countries I saw films being screened in parks for children. It seemed like a wonderful picnic environment.”
The team has screened age-old classics like Lion King, Dil Chahta Hai and more and was a huge hit among people in the city.” So far screenings have been showcased at a star hotels recently and the third screening will take place on January 29 at a mall in Whitelfield.
Many people enjoy watching their old favourites all over again in the company of their loved ones. “And since we as Indians love films so much, we wanted to screen films that would be appropriate for family gatherings,” adds Safdhar on the choice of films.
On similar lines, another team is all set to put up their first film screening and are excited about the overwhelming response they have already received! “We just posted the event on social media and are already almost sold out!” says Karthik Doddamane of Minecraft Events, brightly.
“It seems like an interesting idea because people are always complaining that they have nothing new to do. And when we were kids, we would get together and screen films on projectors in our locality. It used to be a fun bonding event,” says the founder who is all set to screen the entertainer Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara next weekend and already has plans for the next screening around Valentines day.
Many youngsters are stoked about the concept and of catching their favourite films with loved ones, under the stars! “I have been to two open air movie nights and can’t get enough of it,” says Asha Ponappa, a 24- year-old Bengalurean.
“We have only seen such events in films and to be a part of it is brilliant. It works as a perfect night out for a romantic date, fun family event or just a girls night or guys night out,” says the youngster about the trend which doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon!
