Gotta love this Nights Watch!
With the seventh instalment of Game of Thrones releasing today, fans are all set for their finest GoT events and activities in the city.
“There is no way we wouldn’t have created a huge pomp and show about it. Plus, for all we know, this is going to be one of the final seasons. Our weekly Monday night rituals are set with friends coming over and bringing snacks to much on,” he adds, in an attempt to explain just how intense their obsession is. From pub quizzes where right answers can win the fans official merchandise, to GoT inspired exclusively house curated cocktails, along with a spread of delicacies to go side-by-side the live screening of all the season finales thus far–the city is buzzing with events, prepping fans for the beginning of their watch!
While some have done their waiting in aggression, attending cosplay events and such, there are a group of fans who have let their impatience remain disguised and tamed. Psychologist, Tanuka Ray is a closeted fan. “I haven’t spent a byte of my dongle’s data in the past four months, in order to have uninterrupted live streaming when the show arrives! Secretly, I have finished re-watching the entire series of six seasons so far. The only thing that visibly channels my inner Khaleesi (a character from the franchise) is stuffing my tummy at the GoT-inspired cafes throughout the city. I walk in like a Whitewalker and come out feeling like a Lannister,” she quips, dropping references from the series. But she isn’t to be blamed, as the city does abound in classic ‘seven kingdoms’ inspired delicacies like King’s Roasted Honeyed Chicken, Sansa’s Lemon Cakes, Daenerys’ Firey Wings, Cersei’s Salad and Pie, Jon’s Hot Mutton Chops Stew and many more!
Let’s face it; The city can’t contain its excitement any longer. Be it the Starks or the Targaryens or even the ruthless Lannisters, they are taking every required step to show their alliance towards their team. Young mother Shruti Rao, a full-time mummy is a hard-core GoT fan. “It sounds so careless, but I have postponed every early morning activity of my daughter to later in the day, including informing her school why she can’t be there early morning,” she spills, with reference to the season premier showcasing at 7.30 am, sharp.
Aggression, passion and patient dedication — namma ooru’s GoT fans have mastered every virtue it takes to be the quintessential fan. However, fans like Shruti cannot help but feel the need for the franchise-inspired trends to be a permanent thing in the city. “Most of the time, these are pop-up stunts with tonnes of people to cash in, owing to the intense craze,” she opines, all prepped and energised, awaiting the premier.
