Master crafter
Haseena Kutty teaches craft to both children and adults.
Haseena Kutty believes that electronic gadgets and excessive preoccupation with academics have killed creativity in children. So, she started The Crafter’s Hub, a place where both children and adults can try their hand at crafting and explore their creativity.
The Crafter’s Hub, opened last November, holds weekly programmes in crafting for both adults and children. These mainly include paper crafting, newspaper basket crafting, decoupage, crochet and many more. “The Crafter’s Hub is a place where people can get together and learn new skills,” says Haseena, who hails from Panampilly Nagar in Ernakulam.
An MBA graduate, Haseena, 47, has been working in the event management industry for over 20 years and has travelled all over India as part of her job. She has always had a passion for crafting. Classes are held at The Crafter’s Hub every Friday and Saturday.
The workshops have been receiving positive feedback. “My child loves the crafting classes and is always asking when the next session is going to happen,” says Rosa Abrao, the mother of a five-year-old who has visited the place. Majority of the visitors are from Ernakulam district. People also come from places such as Mumbai and Pune. To reach more people who want to learn craft, she has designed Do-It-Yourself (DIY) kits which contain all the necessary accessories needed to create a specific craft. Haseena has planned crafting workshops for children in the age group of 3-10 in the coming days. For adults, she has planned a newspaper basket crafting workshop.
In addition to teaching crafting, Haseena is planning to conduct in the future a certificate course in wedding planning for degree graduates, where she plans to put her event management skills into use. “The job opportunities in event management companies are very high these days and the pay is also really good,” she says.
